Five Guys Burgers & Fries - Park Royal (Ambleside)

Hey Everyone,

So we've been to Five Guys several times already now, and we've been to the downtown location already in Vancouver, but that was a disappointment so we were hoping the Park Royal location would redeem the franchise with their Canadian locations.

They were pretty busy for dinner time when we arrived so there was a slight lineup. They are definitely not like their American counterparts as there was no big greeting when we entered.

The menu consists of pretty basic choices such as picking one or two patties for your burger, whether you want cheese and bacon, and which free toppings you want, including grilled mushrooms and grilled onions. It still amazes me that they can make those two specific toppings free, whereas other fast food restaurants would have charged a premium to add those.

There are no combos here, so you'll have to order everything separate. Pro Tip: just get one order of fries, as they will fill the cup with fries, dump the contents into your bag, then fill up the cup again!

While waiting for your order, they have tons of peanuts for you to snack on while you wait, and it's all FREE!

These peanuts are very flavourful and extremely addicting!

I had the Little Bacon Cheeseburger $7.49 which means one patty, topped with mayo, ketchup, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms.

After having the drier burger from the downtown location, I assumed it was a Canadian thing to not make the burgers as greasy as the American versions. I was so disappointed that I actually wrote to Five Guys complaining of the non-greasy Canadian version of their burger. Not sure if that had any effect, but this burger from Park Royal's location was DELICIOUS! The grease level was back and the burger was super juicy! Everything was the way the perfect burger should be. The burgers are made fresh to order and grilled right before you at their open kitchen. The patty was juicy and tender, the bacon was crispy and flavourful, and the grilled mushrooms and onions were just the perfect toppings to complete this amazing burger. All of this is wrapped in a tin foil wrap to preserve the heat of the burger so it stays fresh if you are bringing it somewhere. There's cheese in there too, just melted on top of the patty so you can see some of it oozing out from the right side. I was so relieved to find that this location was doing the Five Guys burger justice, and my faith in the Canadian Five Guys franchise was restored!

Jess had the Little Cheeseburger $6.49 with ketchup, mayo, pickles, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms.

She absolutely loved her burger as well and agreed that this was a huge improvement over the downtown location!

As I had previously suggested, we ordered one Regular Fries $4.19 to share.

This is how we usually eat the fries! Their fries are amazing! I did not need to add any extra salt or pepper, as they were perfectly flavoured already. They are fresh cut fries, so they are perfectly fine to take home and reheat in the oven, but we ended up finishing them on the spot. The fries don't harden up after 15 minutes like other fast food fries do (McDonalds).

We also shared a Large Drink $2.69.

The drink comes with free refills so just one drink is good for two to share, if you don't mind sharing of course!

The service here isn't as awesome as the American locations we been to, so not much to say here. There was nothing exceptional here so it was just average.

Overall this was an excellent dining experience in terms of their food. Their burgers are absolutely amazing and so are their fries! I would consider their burgers to be one of the best in terms of fast food burgers in Vancouver. The price for the burgers is a bit on the high end, but you pay for the quality of the burger, as this to me is second to none when it comes to a bacon cheeseburger. The service is just average, but you normally wouldn't expect much from a fast food joint anyways, so this wasn't a big factor. Awesome burgers, amazing fries, and free peanuts, and as long as they keep up their burger quality, I'm going to keep coming back here for more!
